Richmond Place, Twickenham

Our client had lived in this one bedroom apartment in Twickenham for a number of years and was looking to sell.  Although the property was well maintained it was dated and had a number of the original fixtures including mismatched flooring, artexed bubbled ceilings, dated bathroom and kitchen and no room for home working.  Our client asked for our interior design advice to modernise the apartment so as to maximise it's appeal to buyers.  The following upgrades were made by the client's builder following our recommendations:

- all ceilings plastered in a smooth finish

- new bathroom

- kitchen was upgraded to allow room for tall fridge freezer and wall tiles were added 

- the hallway cupboards were removed and space for a home office created.  A new hallway cupboard was created elsewhere

- new décor throughout

- new unified flooring throughout

- patio was tiled

We worked with the builder to provide design input as necessary.

The client was considering investing further in their property by extending into the loft space to create a master suite and therefore turning this from a one to two bedroomed apartment.  We investigated the possibility of this. Our investigations concluded that this would be possible, given that other conversions had been granted by the local planning department.  We did however advise the client against going ahead with the works due to a number of factors - the client's appetite to sell and do so reasonably quickly, the potential timeline involved in obtaining the necessary approvals (from planning and potentially the leaseholders), the likely build costs versus the return on investment and the status of the housing market where selling apartments was more difficult since Covid as buyers are looking to relocate out of the city and ideally to buy a home with a large outdoor space.  The client accepted our findings and once the upgrades were completed, we completely staged this fabulous apartment.  We even created a small outdoor eating / entertaining space on the terrace.
